angry knitting moment

Jitterbug gone bad

Remember how I said I felt like I was getting my knitting mojo back? I was wrong. The knitting gods have played an evil trick on me.

I’ve made such a rookie sock knitting mistake. Check out the heel on my green sock… anything look strange to you????? Do you see that gigantic heel and gusset? That’s the problem.

I’m so having to walk away from this mess. Ugh. I am so annoyed with myself over the look of this crazy large heel and gusset!!! What was I thinking?! Clearly I wasn’t. And why oh why didn’t I see this as I was making it?! I got a little carried away making the heel and didn’t realize that I knitted it over twice the size it should be. I can’t believe I didn’t measure this. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh. Seriously, this is probably what the size of a giants heel looks like. And… to top it all off I’ve knitted almost down to the toe decreases. This translates to I was almost done knitting this sock. I didn’t see this gigantic error until I was trying on my sock to see how much further I needed to knit down to the toe. I’m just not sure what to do at this point; should I frog it ALL THE WAY back to the heel and fix to my liking? Dude, I’m not so sure I have the guts to do that!

So much time and energy making this giant heel sock.  I guess I’ll never make this mistake again.  Man, some lessons are so tough!  Ugh. Ugh. Ugh.

Serenity Now.

Oh, sweetie! I’ve made mistakes like that before, where the only solution is frogging back allll of that knitting. You never know whether to smack yourself, or just cry! My suggestion: Put it on the back burner for a while, work on something else to make yourself feel better about your fabulous skillz as a knitter, then come back to it when you feel more confident. Ripping it back will still suck, but it won’t be quite as bad as doing it while the wound is still fresh!

I have done the same thing! I had a problem when I was making my first toe up magic loop sock, and I had to frog the heel 2 times. Don’t give up. We all have these moments. I love the colors of the socks! And the pattern on the heel is really cool!

    love you!

YUCK! I am so sorry this happened to you, it’s just terrible. I don’t blame you for having the urge to burn the sock and never look back. Sometimes our passion can become our worst enemy! However, it is very pretty and once you’ve calmed down I think you’ll be able to rationally think of a way to keep the socks. To be honest girl, I’d wear them just like that! No joke, you know I would. They actually look really pretty. It’s still a perfectly functioning sock, and you can barley tell the heel is ‘slightly’ larger than necessary. Best of luck to you, and worse come worse just give them to me! I will wear them proudly.
